2022-23 Back to School News!

Dear Horizon Jr./ Sr. High School Parent/ Guardians:

I’m hoping you all had a fantastic, more normal, summer this year.  As we prepare for the 2022-23 school year, here are some important reminders:

Our office will be open to the public starting August 8th, 2022 (8am-3:00pm)

I’m excited to announce that over the summer Marzano Resources recognized Horizon High School has earned level two certification (effective instruction in every classroom) in their High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework.  This is huge!  We are the only alternative school in the state that has earned this certification!

The traditional school year (first day of school) begins on Monday August 29th, 2022.  Doors open and 8:00AM and classes start at 9:00AM (late start Mondays again)!  The buses will run at the same times they did last year.

Students that were not enrolled in HHS last year and/or have never attended or enrolled in HHS, must complete the entire application packet and interview before they will be allowed to attend school.  Student interviews for new applicants will be conducted starting August 9th, before school starts..

For students who were enrolled in HHS last year and have not enrolled in another school since, you just need to stop by the office as soon as possible and update their application and pay fees ($20.00 Chromebook and $20.00 Activity- $40.00 total) before school starts.  School lunch is not free for everyone this year, so we are encouraging all parents to complete the free/ reduced application for lunches.

Thursday, August 25th, from 4-6pm, we will be hosting a student/parent meeting/open house dinner.  You and your students are all welcome and encouraged to attend.  A meal will be provided.  It’s an excellent time to update records, meet the staff and see the school.  We will review calendars, schedules, handbooks and new policies at the meeting.

I believe Horizon High School can become the highest performing alternative school in the state, and  I’m looking forward to working with you and your students this year.

Feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

         Shad Hamilton
